First Summer School on Recent Advances in Optics and Photonics, June 27 to 29, 2012, FCUP, Porto, Portugal

The first Summer School on Recent Advances in Optics and Photonics  is organised by the Portuguese Society for Optics and Photonics, SPOF (Sociedade Portuguesa para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Óptica e Fotónica) in collaboration with INESC TEC and IT-Aveiro.

Research and development in different fields of Optics and Photonics is showing a remarkable development in Portugal over the last decade. In last year's International Conference on Application of Optics and Photonics, very sucessfully organized by SPOF (www.optica.pt/aop2011), 120 quality works in a wide range of Optics and Photonics fields were presented by Portuguese researchers. From those, nearly 50% were students... illustrating the vitality and growth potential of Portuguese research in Optics and Photonics.

The aim of this Summer School is to offer students and young researchers the opportunity to learn about some of the most exciting developments in the field and to deepen their knowledge in Optics and Photonics. A number of lectures in a wide range of fields will be delivered by prestigious national and international invited lecturers. The Summer School will include in its first day the 10^th edition of the Symposium on Enabling Optical Networks and Sensors (SEONS). The event takes place at the Physics and Astronomy Department, Faculty of Sciences at the University of Porto, from June 27^th, 2012.
